MOBITEL NIGERIA LAUNCHES BROADBAND POWERED COMPUTER LAB CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY INITIATIVE

As part of Mobitel Nigeria Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, Mobitel has entered into partnership with House on the Rock Lagos on a broadband powered Computer Lab Initiative.

House on the Rock, a metropolitan faith based organization through the Lagos State Ministry of Education has embarked on a social initiative to equip 100 schools in Lagos State with State of the art computer labs by 2015 at 25 Schools per year.

Mobitel is partnering with House on the Rock to furnish each of the labs with broadband Internet connectivity. This entails the provision of one indoor unit with yearly subscription to each lab alongside technical support and other value added services.

This initiative was launched today in 16 of the beneficiary school labs for the first year of this initiative which have been built, furnished and ready for use. The schools include:

1. Dolphin Senior High School, Ebete – Elefun
2. Government Girls Senior School, Keffi Ikoyi
3. Isale-Eko Senior High School, Lagos Island
4. Okesuna Junior High School, Lagos Island
5. Lafiaji Junior High School, Lagos Island
6. New Era Girls Senior High School, Surulere
7. Wesley Girls Junior High School, Yaba
8. Iponri Estate Junior High School, Iponri, Surulere

14. Isolo Comprehensive Junior High School, Aswani , Isolo
15. Ilupeju Grammar Schools, Ilupeju, Oshodi
16. Eva Adelaja Senior Girls High School, Bariga

This is a furtherance of their drive to support knowledge based initiatives amongst youths as has been earlier demonstrated through Mobitel support for the Kuramo School L4L Project. L4L which stands for Laptops For Learning, is a consortium assembled by the Nigeria-Britain Association to deliver on the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) global initiative. It is implemented in partnership with the Lagos State Government on a Public Private Social Partnership and we are providing broadband access to drive the project.

Besides showing itself as a good Corporate Citizen, Mobitel by these CSR initiatives hopes to empower the next generation with access to information that will enable them make better decisions, review their lifestyle in line with global trends and reach their potentials in life.

All of this ties into their mission statement of innovatively using broadband to improve African Socio-economic life.
